Let’s Say GOODBYE to the Little League Pledge

When my son was playing baseball, I was pissed that they march the boys our before games and made them say this:

Pledge

I trust in God
I love my country
And will respect its laws
I will play fair
And strive to win
But win or lose
I will always do my best

Evidently that has been in place since 1954, and I doubt it was written with the intent to indoctrinate kids.

Whether it was meant to or not though, it does.

I have a feeling there is a very specific version of God that the author was going for, and in this day and age it is unnecessary to force kids to say this when the amount of “Nones” or Americans who don’t believe in any religion, is on the rise.

We put up with “In God We Trust” on money, but we disallow the Ten Commandments to be emblazoned in public buildings.

In that vein, it is time to stop Little League from forcing kids to publicly profess a belief in God that may run contrary to parental wishes .
